REGULATORY FIRESIDE CHAT
NBID hosted a fireside chat on what regulation in 2026 means for community and regional banks. Read panelists' key takeaways:
| 01 |
The regulatory tone has shifted.
The panelists discussed how agencies are refocusing exams on material financial risk. The OCC, FDIC, and Fed are aligned on reducing burden for community banks.
| 02 |
Reciprocal deposits are becoming a baseline expectation.
Panelists agreed that reciprocal deposits are no longer a nice-to-have, but a core part of running a safe and sound institution.
| 03 |
The Keeping Deposits Local Act could significantly expand reciprocal capacity.
The proposed tiered system would allow up to 50% of total liabilities for institutions under $1B.
| 04 |
AI is welcome, with governance.
The panelists discussed how regulators expect explainability, board oversight, and sound risk management. Updated FFIEC guidance is on the way.

*NBID LLC is not a bank. Deposit insurance covers the failure of insured institutions, not NBID. Deposits are placed at FDIC-insured network institutions and are eligible for pass-through insurance up to $250,000 per institution. Certain conditions must be satisfied for “pass-through” FDIC deposit insurance coverage to apply. A list of participating banks appears at https://www.nbid.com/bank-list.
